Chelsea say that Enzo Maresca pays them compensation now he has been confirmed as Manchester Metropolis‘s new head coach.
Former Blues supervisor Maresca, 46, has signed a three-year deal at Metropolis and succeeds Pep Guardiola, who stepped down in Could after a trophy-laden 10 years in cost.
The appointment was held up by talks between Chelsea and Metropolis over a compensation bundle, that includes an undisclosed payment for the Italian. One supply has advised BBC Sport that Manchester Metropolis are paying Chelsea about £17m.
That compensation bundle is separate to the one the Blues say they’ve agreed with Maresca and BBC Sport is but to confirm the small print.
The Italian left Chelsea in January, following a run of 1 win in seven Premier League matches.
Chelsea‘s assertion on the time instructed the choice was mutual, and that each Maresca and the board had been in settlement that “a change offers the group one of the best likelihood of getting the season again on observe”.
Nevertheless, Maresca has now confirmed that he handed in his resignation at Stamford Bridge and acknowledged that it “opened a path” for him to affix Metropolis.
In an announcement, Chelsea, who described Maresca’s resignation as a “choice to not proceed fulfilling his duties”, stated they’ve reached a confidential settlement with the Italian over compensation on account of be paid to the membership.
